MVD Free Airport has been selected as Uruguay’s nationwide distribution center for the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine. All the nationwide vaccination centers will be receiving the vaccines directly from MVD Free Airport’s regional distribution center, eliminating unnecessary steps, risks and actors throughout the distribution process.
“The fact that we have been servicing the pharmaceutical industry for regional distribution for years was a deciding factor in the Ministry of Health’s selection of MVD Free Airport. Being familiar with our infrastructure, our internal processes and team made them feel confident that we are the right partner for such a historic endeavor”, mentioned Bruno Guella, Managing Director at MVD Free Airport.
Prior to the arrival of the first batch of vaccines, the MVD Free Airport team worked closely with the Ministry of Health and Pfizer representatives to review processes and protocols, taking into account the challenges of maintaining a cold chain at -70 degrees Celsius. Additionally, communication structures were aligned to ensure all the partners throughout the supply chain including airlines, ground-handling agents, trucking companies and every other stakeholder interacted timely and clearly. This was a pivotal effort to ensure safety and traceability to every vaccine received and shipped.
“We are conscious of the implications of such a responsibility,” mentioned Guella. “Hence our effort is daily to strive to exceed expectations. People’s lives are at stake”, he concluded.
